Trade & Labour Unions States - West Bengal ‘Normal airport operations not hit due to stir’ Our Bureau Kolkata, Feb. 12 The relay hunger strike by the Airport Authority Employee’s Union (AAEU) did not disrupt the normal operations at the airports across the country, airport officials said in Kolkata on Tuesday. About 100 union members went on a relay hunger strike outside the Kolkata airport main gate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, protesting against Government inaction on a number of issues, including delay in grant of new pension and promotion schemes, said Mr Dipankar Ghosh, Kolkata Airport Branch Secretary, AAEU. They were also protesting against the closure of existing airports at Hyderabad and Bangalore and the delay in modernisation of Kolkata airport, which was supposed to begin in January. AAEU has almost 12,000 non-executive members across the country out of which almost 2000 participated in the hunger strike in rotation. Most of the airlines also confirmed that there was no delay in any flight due to the strike. More Stories on : Trade & Labour Unions | Airlines | West Bengal
