Opinion - Letters
Closing airports

It is quite baffling that when crying improved infrastructure is a crying need for the country, the decision to shut down existing airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore is being implemented by the Central Government.

No doubt, thousands of crores have been invested in the new Airports, but is it not better to let the airlines decide which one is operationally more efficient, cost-effective and convenient for the public.

Each airport will have its unique set of advantages where it scores over the other. Is this a move to protect the new airport promoters?

World over, cities such as London, New York and Paris all have more than one Airport around their cities to cater to the growing aircraft and passenger traffic.

No doubt, our Ministers and promoters are fully aware of this fact. One sincerely hopes that this decision will be reversed.
