Japan Air looking to connect more destinations

Mumbai, Feb. 13 Japan Airlines would be looking at starting flights from five more destinations connecting India and Japan, next year. The Japan-based carrier is eyeing flights to Japan from Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata.

“Though the clearances have to come from the respective Governments, we are recommending that we may be given permission to connect more destinations in India,” said a senior official from the airline on sidelines of a Yokoso Japan! (Welcome Japan) seminar held by the Travel Agents’ Association of India along with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan and Japan National Tourist Organisation (JNTO) on Tuesday.

According to Mr Anoop Kanuga, Chairman, Western Region of TAAI, the event is being organised to increase awareness among various stakeholders in the tourism industry about both countries.

Tourism

“Despite sharing good relations with Japan, not much is happening on the tourism front between the two countries. We hope that we bring in some awareness about what Japan as a destination has to offer and vice-versa through this seminar.”

As per 2006 data, outbound tourists from India to Japan stood at 62,000, while inbound tourists were almost double at 1,20,000, said Mr Om Prakash, Director of In Orbit Tours and Travels and ex-chairman of TAAI.
