Railways Industry & Economy - Health Rly stations may have pharmacy-cum-clinics
New Delhi, Feb. 13 In a move that would allow healthcare players like Apollo, Fortis and Lifespring tap train passengers, the Indian Railways is considering a proposal to set up pharmacy-cum-clinics at various stations to take care of their medical emergency needs. The Railways has about 7,500 stations and it aims to move almost 661 crore passengers in the current fiscal. During the first 10 months (April 1, 2007- January 31, 2008) this fiscal, the Railways transported 555.98 crore passengers. Sets up committeeIt has set up a committee to recommend a model for allowing healthcare chains for awarding pharmacy-cum-clinic licence at stations. The committee, required to submit its report by March-end, would have to suggest the bidding methodology and qualification norms for players such as minimum net worth and experience. It has been asked to suggest whether licences should be given on financial bidding or fixed licence fees. It also has to take a view on the process by which a licence can be given for clusters of stations — whether by inviting expressions of interest and technical scrutiny or by two- level tendering system.
