Tea Offers at 13-week high at Coonoor tea auctions
Coonoor, Feb. 13 Volume offered for sale No: 7 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) to be held here on Thursday and Friday has risen to 13-week high except for a marginal increase in the sale held on December 13. An analysis of catalogues of the various brokers indicates that the volume offered totals 9.53 lakh kg – some 46,000 kg more than last week. It is as much as 1.32 lakh kg more than the offer this time last year. Fresh offers are said to be 8.6 lakh kg out of 9.53 lakh kg. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions. Leaf & Dust gradesOf the 9.53 lakh kg, as much as 6.80 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 2.73 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 8.69 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.84 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.39 lakh kg belong to the orthodox while 6.41 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.45 lakh kg belong to the orthodox while 2.28 lakh kg, CTC. Auctioneers said that high-grown winter teas maintaining top quality were on offer this week also. On the export front, Russian buyers are still waiting for firm orders. More Stories on : Tea
