Headed the media way?

Now that M. Damodaran is all set to leave the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the obvious speculation is on what he will be doing next. For the last so many years, Damodaran has been in the public eye, especially since he took up the challenge of putting Unit Trust of India (UTI) back on its feet after that organisation went through one of its worst crises surrounding the Unit-64 scheme in 2001. Having successfully turned around that institution, Damodaran briefly moved over to head IDBI but he became a news-maker once he took over as Chairman of the stock market regulator, SEBI.

A colleague who met him late last month tried to probe the matter further, especially when Damodaran told him that he was not interested in another term at SEBI and would like to move on. Asked what his plans were, Damodaran told him with a straight face "Maybe I will become a journalist like you." If he is serious, most editors would be glad to offer him an opportunity.
