High-profile inauguration

Possibly because it is too close to the Budget, the annual general meeting of FICCI will not see the participation of Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, this year. But that is not causing any anguish in the Federation, since the Prime Minister is scheduled to open the twoday event on Friday. Other high-profile guests are Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Kamal Nath, Murli Deora and a host of senior officials. Though it is not the first time that a Prime Minister has inaugurated a trade body's AGM, FICCI this time has literally gone to town about the fact that Dr Manmohan Singh will be doing the honours. On the streets of the capital, hoardings, with the PM's picture, have been put up announcing the event, and not many scribes can recall whether such an exercise was undertaken earlier.
