Airlines India, Bangla to double weekly flights
New Delhi, Feb 14 India and Bangladesh have agreed to more than double to 61 the number of flights-a-week that the designated airlines of the two countries can operate between them. This was finalised at the conclusion of air services bilateral talks here on Wednesday. The agreement gives the airlines operating the 61 weekly flights from India to Dhaka the option of stopping at any city within the seven countries that form the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India and Maldives, apart from Bangladesh, form the SAARC regional grouping. Onward flightsIn addition, four of these 61 weekly flights operating to the Bangladeshi capital can also fly onwards to Yangon, Hanoi, Perth, Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Osaka, Tokyo, Bangkok or Beijing. If the airlines from India, however, decide to utilise any of the 61 weekly flights to operate services to Chittagong or Sylhet, then they too would be allowed to stop in any of the SAARC countries while flying to and from Bangladesh.
