Canon to focus on Kerala’s digital printing segment

Launches latest press installation; targets Rs 20 cr biz

Kochi, Feb. 14 Canon India Pvt Ltd is focusing on the digital printing segment in Kerala with the introduction of its latest digital press installation, Image Press C7000 VP, in the market.

Addressing media persons, Mr Kensaku Konishi, President and CEO, Canon India, said that the company has put the State in the first phase of market penetration along with other metros considering the boom in print and graphic arts (PGA) segment in the region. The newly introduced Image Press is capable of handling various digital printing applications for visiting cards, greeting cards, posters, and calendars among others. Mr Konishi pointed out that the retail print-on-demand is the new sector emerging in the printing segment in India, especially in Kerala, which has a substantial share in the South.

Market size

The market for the PGA industry, which is growing at 30 per cent in India, is estimated at Rs 200 crore out of which the South contributes 40 per cent. Canon is looking at a business of Rs 20 crore in Kerala in the current year with a market share of 20 per cent in the PGA business.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice-President, Canon India, said that the company, which has been instrumental in the growth of the digital publishing industry, is also investing heavily in setting up the best demo centres and training manpower before introducing this new revolutionary technology to customers.

Revenue

He said that the revenue of the company had touched Rs 510 crore in 2007 by achieving a 37 per cent share in the market during January to December, and the figures are expected to touch Rs 710 crore in 2008.

The company is aiming to achieve a business of Rs 1,000 crore in the third year. The overall presence of the company is also expected to increase to 6,000 outlets by December 2008, he said.
