Arts & Crafts States - Karnataka Art sale for social cause
An exhibit at the contemporary Indian art auction and sale in Bangalore.
Bangalore, Feb. 14 It was an exhilarating Sunday afternoon. Five pieces of art by artists G. Subramaniam, J.M.S. Mani, Shankar Kendale, Basuki Dasgupta and Sujata Achrekarwere were auctioned at a gathering of Bangalore’s elites. Other canvases by artists such as Beena Pradhan, H.R. Das, Mridul Chandra, Tarun Banerjee, Seema Kohli, Biswajit Mondal were also on sale. Styled ‘Rang,’ the event was co-hosted by Taj West End and Mr Wim Elfrink, Executive Vice-President, Cisco. The proceeds of the event, nearly Rs 16 lakh, will support activities at The Bangalore Hospice Trust (Karunashraya) and Ashwini Charitable Trust, an NGO that educates underprivileged children. The Bangalore Hospice Trust (Karunashraya) was set up as a public charitable trust jointly by the Indian Cancer Society and Rotary Club of Bangalore Indiranagar to care for advanced stage cancer patients. “We have organised similar events in the US. Doing it here is much tougher but we are enjoying it,” says Ms Katya Elfrink. “For the Taj Group, participation in voluntary work is corporate culture,” Mr Mohan Kumar, Area Director and General Manager, Taj West End, Bangalore, said.
