Lower yieldHe said that the average yield of paddy was between three and three-and-a-half tonnes per hectare, and pointed out that it was less than the anticipated yield of six tonnes per hectare by the Agriculture department. Mr Vaithiyanathan said that the poor yield was due to the crop damage caused by the two spells of heavy northeast monsoon rains in December last year.
