Plumbing lab set up at Pune engg college

Targeted at students, construction industry professionals

Pune, Feb. 14 A laboratory dedicated to the plumbing sector has been set up in the premises of the College of Engineering Pune. This is a joint venture of the Indian Institute of Plumbing and the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) and would be helpful to engineering and architecture students and faculty, professionals and visitors from the construction industry.

Mr George Bliss, Chairman, World Plumbing Council, inaugurated the plumbing lab, which is said to be the first in the country, on Thursday. About 2,000 sq ft area has been set aside by COEP where there would be a display of various plumbing systems, working models, products and literature. The lab would display latest innovations, modern sanitary and bath fittings. One can see the working of modern waterless urinals, cisterns, water treatment plant, pre-plumb system, solvent, siphonic roof drains, backflow preventors and various types of traps and pumps at the lab. Working models of water conserving flushes and taps are are also shown. It also has a variety of manuals on automatic plumbing systems, solar and electric hot water heaters. The lab also demonstrates how work should not be done. The lab provides live working models of toilets with plumbing fittings, fixtures and systems.

A classroom, for about 20 students, with a library of books and plumbing codes is also a part of the plumbing laboratory.
