Knitwear & Hosiery States - Tamil Nadu Power crisis hits Tirupur knitwear production
Coimbatore, Feb. 14 The dislocation in power supply has severely hit the knitwear industry’s production in Tirupur forcing the exporters raising alarm over its adverse fall-out on readymade garment exports from the region. Knitwear exporting industries are faced with continuous stoppage of power supply lasting up to five to six hours a day, which has threatened to dislocate their production schedule including missing the shipment delivery, the Tirupur Exporters Association has said. The garment exporters are forced to use captive generation that cost them an additional Rs 5-6 a piece which will make their production costlier, the association said, adding that to make good the delay in meeting the delivery schedule, the shippers had to rush their export consignment by air at staggering cost. The power crisis coming close on the heels of the garment industry’s debacle from falling dollar value would lead to closure of units and loss of jobs. The association has asked the State Government to come to the industry’s rescue by streamlining the power supply situation on a war-footing. More Stories on : Knitwear & Hosiery | Tamil Nadu
