ThoughtWorks opens centre in Chennai

Chennai, Feb. 14 ThoughtWorks, a US-based provider of information technology consultancy, has expanded its operations in India with the opening of a new development centre in Chennai. It already has centres in Bangalore and Pune.

The Chennai centre will have around 75 employees in the next six to eight months. Across India, the company has around 270 employees and it will end the year with 350. Around 20 per cent of the employees are recruited from colleges, Mr Trevor Mather, CEO, ThoughtWorks, told newspersons.

Thoughtworks offers services and products spanning the entire software development lifecycle, ranging from the birth of an idea through to development. For Oracle, the company developed a social networking site in six weeks; for a US-based start up company it developed an online hotel reservation system in four months and for an electronic retailer it delivered a point of sale system to over 500 European stores in 12 months, he said.

The company will end the calendar year with revenues of $160 million compared with $125 million last year. Revenue from India will be around $17 million ($10.5 million), he said.
