Yamaha plans to focus on entry-level launches

New Delhi, Feb. 15 In a move to revive its share in the entry-level motorcycle market, Yamaha Motor India plans to launch a variant of its 100 cc bike Crux. The company’s top sales official told Business Line, “We are working on a new variant of our entry-level bike Crux, which would revive our market share in the motorcycles market. With this we expect our market share to be at 4 per cent by the end of the year from the current 2 per cent.”

Re-focussing

He said that the company, which had as a strategy decided to focus on premium bikes, was now re-focussing on the entry-level segment. The company on Thursday announced the launch of two variants of its 125 bike-Gladiator Type SS and Type RS priced at Rs 46, 350 onwards ex-showroom. This will cost around Rs 3,000 more than the existing model of Gladiator which sells at around Rs 43,850.

“Gladiator Type SS and Type RS have been designed to deliver a sport biking experience aimed at the young, evolving lifestyle market. Both are strong products and we are confident it will drive our sales to the fifth gear,” said Mr T. Maeda, Chief Marketing & Sales Officer, Yamaha Motor India in a statement.

The company recently rolled out two of its models — the Super Sports YZF - R1 and the Torque Sports MT01 in the country. Apart from this, the company had said recently that it would launch two models in the 150 cc segment by the end of the year. At present, the company manufactures the Alba, 100 cc Crux and 125 cc bikes Gladiator from its facility in Haryana.
