Furniture maker Haworth to open centre in Pune

Pune, Feb. 15 Haworth, the $1.66-billion designer and manufacturer of office furniture and workspace, is all set to launch the Haworth Pune Creativity Centre and launch new products.Talking to presspersons, Mr Vyanna Reddiar, Managing Director, Haworth India, said the company would be expanding its portfolio to include system furniture such as office panels, modular office spaces etc.

Made in Germany

The company has presence in the seating market and has launched Sage, a new seating product. Sage has been designed by Italian studio, Favaretto and Partners and has so far been manufactured in Germany. Its features include multiple position back lock and optional forward tilt, sliding or fixed seat, back height adjustment, mesh back and has an option of upto 150 upholstery fabrics for seating and choice of base.

Price range

The product would have a base price of Rs 7,000 and go up to Rs 10,000. Sage would be produced at the Pune facility, he said. Commenting on the performance of the company, he said the company, which had set up its manufacturing facility in Pune in 2006 and has so far made sales of around 38,000 chairs and is targeting around 48,000 this year.

Export hub

The facility has around 55,000 sq ft of area. He said the Pune plant currently catered to the domestic and the Middle East market. Plans are also on for making it the export hub of the South East Asian region. Mr. Reddiar noted that only 25 per cent of the space was being utilised for the manufacturing and the rest would be utilised when the system furniture portfolio was added. The new products are expected to be commercially available by the third quarter of the calendar year (September-December).

Location

Commenting on the Haworth Pune Creativity Centre, he said it would be occupying about 5,500 sq ft of area in the Ishanya Mall, the design centre and speciality mall. The centre is expected to begin operations by March this year.
