The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will enhance its generation capacity to 55,000 MW by the end of the Eleventh Plan, Mr G.K. Agarwal, Executive Director – Human Resources, NTPC and Power Management Institute, Noida, has said.

The NTPC’s objective is to establish the capacity to generate 75,000 MW by 2017, Mr Agarwal said interacting with newspersons.

Recruitment, training

On the HR front, the corporation has been recruiting 500 fresh engineers every year and imparting them intensive training for a year. Next year, 800 engineers would be recruited. Training being a critical component in capacity addition, the NTPC has made it essential for its 25,000 employees to undergo seven man days of training every year.

Over the next three years, 3,500 more employees would be recruited. Development of organisational capacities for coal mining, gas exploration and nuclear power generation was in progress.

Virtual classroom facility would be created in the Power Management Institute located on a 10-acre site at Noida by this year-end. The corporation has acquired another 10 acres at Noida to meet its training requirements, Mr Agarwal said.
