New launch: The Tata Light Specialist Vehicle which was launched at the ‘Defence Expo 2008’ in New Delhi on Saturday. The vehicle can undertake diverse missions, including reconnaissance and counter insurgency operations for special forces, and also operate as an ambulance. S. Subramanium Our Bureau New Delhi, Feb. 16 Tata Motors on Saturday launched its Light Specialist Vehicle that can undertake diverse missions, including reconnaissance and counter insurgency operations for special forces, and also operate as an ambulance. The new vehicle was launched at the Defence Expo 2008, which was inaugurated by the Defence Minister, Mr A.K. Antony. Addressing a press conference after the launch, the Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Commercial Vehicles, Mr Ravi Pisharody, said that the company would also look to export this vehicle. It already exports defence vehicles to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and some African countries. Apart from the Tatas, Ashok Leyland, L&T, Kirlosakar and several other Indian companies are taking part at the exhibition. Ashok Leyland has displayed a variety of products, including the Light Specialist Vehicle, which is a multi-terrain all-purpose vehicle and the Stallion (6X6), which is high-mobility alternative to the Stallion 4x4 in desert and sandy conditions.
