Tea dearer at Coimbatore sales

Coimbatore, Feb. 18

The total tea offerings dipped to 4.24 lakh kg at the weekly auction held at the Coimbatore Tea Trade Association on Friday, with dust grades comprising 2.66 lakh kg and the balance of the leaf. The demand for the orthodox leaf grades improved with the best Nilgiris high growns quoting dearer by Rs 2 a kg.

Exporters lent fair support, internal buyers were selective on whole leaf grades. Nominal weight of secondary Orthodox dust sold around last levels. There was fair demand for the CTC leaf grades. While fannings ruled steady, others remained lower by Rs 1 with some withdrawals of the bolder brokens. Exporters operated on bolder grades, internal buyers lent fair support. There was good demand for the CTC dust. Select invoices of high priced teas and good liquoring ones, and the medium and plainer sorts quoted dearer by Re 1. The Orthodox high grown touched Rs 72 a kg, and the best CTC grades moved in the Rs 45-58 price band. Good CTC dust teas ranged between Rs 56 and Rs 70.
