Expo on elevators in Mumbai from Feb. 28

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Feb. 20 Over 130 global and Indian companies manufacturing elevators, escalators and components including OTIS, Mitsubishi and Johnson will showcase their products at a three-day expo beginning here from February 28.

The completion of Hyatt Park Tower, an 85-floor structure at Marine Lines in Mumbai, will make it the tallest building in the city. However, the APIIC – Tower (Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) coming up in Manchirevula suburb of Hyderabad with 100 floors will be the tallest in the country.

Limited open spaces in cities have made town planners sanction vertical growth. This has ensured a 20 per cent growth for the Indian elevators and escalators industry which is expected to touch Rs. 4,100 crore for 2007- 2008, said Ms Anitha Raghunath, convener of the exhibition.

Supported by the Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industries and Elevator World, the event is expected to draw over 6000 builders, engineers, architects and consultants across the country.
