Security LatticeBridge develops tool to track employees in transit Our Bureau Chennai, Feb. 20 LatticeBridge Infotech, part of Tenet Group at IIT Madras and provider of speech recognition technology, has developed a security solution that tracks employees in transit. Called Webtra XTend, the solution uses voice and SMS (short messaging service) to create a near real time information system. This system monitors the employees’ transit events during their travel between work location and residence, and back. The company is targeting BPO companies to sell the solution. The company’s adviser Mr V.M. Sankaran Nampoothiri told newspersons that using the solution a company can track whether a person has boarded the particular vehicle or not. For instance, when a pick up vehicle leaves the office, the Webtra server sends an automated message to each of the employees who will be picked up by that vehicle. This message contains the vehicle number and the name of the driver. Pick-up pointWhen the vehicle is due to arrive at the first pick up point, the driver of the vehicle receives a call from the central server (this is automatic without any human intervention) confirming whether he has reached the first pick up point. All these messages are sent from and received by only authorised phone number of the server. The employee boarding the vehicle also receives a message confirming the person entering the vehicle. This routine continues with server confirming vehicle arrival at every point and the boarding of the next employees in the vehicle. The system triggers alerts when an expected event does not happen. All the information is captured at the backend to derive at a clear picture of the total time taken to traverse the route and the time spent waiting during the trip, he said. Mr S.S. Rajan, Chief Sales and Strategy Officer, LatticeBridge, said the solution is being tested by various companies, including Cognizant. A company spends Rs 3,500- 5,000 on transportation per employee per month. The solution would cost an additional Rs 500 per employee per month. It will be soon made commercially available.
