Farm issues

This refers to the article ‘Time the Indian farmer got his due’ (Business Line, February 20).

The author has raised pertinent issues in respect of agriculture. Though less than 25 per cent of GDP is contributed by the farm sector, it employs more than 70 per cent of the workforce.

India is in a paradoxical situation where it is reaping the benefits of being the largest producer of several commodities while, at the same time, not experiencing any material enhancement. The country requires customised solutions for its problems.
