Foreign Trade Marketing - Outlook Italian Group sees opportunity in India M. Somasekhar Hyderabad, Feb. 22 Italy’s Ghidini Group is keenly eyeing the Indian market. Headquartered in Brescia, near Venice, the group, with a combined turnover of over €350 million, is keen to bring its famed sparkling wine labelled Franciacorta, named after the wine growing region of Italy, to the Indian markets, according to Mr Federico Ghidini, the main promoter. Like Champagne is to the French, Franciacorta wine is to the Italians. “We are looking at opportunities to bring tasty, high-end wine to India. It is our first visit and we are learning the market opportunities,” Mr Ghidini, who was here to launch an Italian fashion apparel told Business Line. The Italian group has interests in aluminium, iron and steel, real estate, wine industry, fashion wear (both men and women) and transportation. For its entry into India, the Group has tied up with Alta Moda Garments, Hyderabad and will supply branded fashion wear to be sold at the latter’s exclusive stores that are being planned across the country. The group has three popular men’s brands — La Sartoria Italiana, Federico Ghidini and Gianmario Matera Napoli. In the core business sectors of stainless steel (Electrofemma), iron ore and aluminium too the Group is exploring opportunities. “We are open to sourcing raw materials and also providing finished products to the Indian market,” said Mr Ghidini.
