Mid-career training for I-T officers proposed

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi, Feb. 22

In a first-ever exercise of its kind, the Income Tax Department proposes to impart advanced mid-career training for ‘commissioner’ grade officers at a management institute. Hitherto, the department was conducting only in-house training for its officers and senior personnel.

The first such advance mid-career training programme will kick off in March at IIM Bangalore for four weeks, followed by two-weeks of training at a reputed international institution, official sources said.

This programme would cover only IRS officers from 1980 to 1989 batches. In all, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has 731 income tax commissioners based in various parts of the country.

Official sources added that similar programmes are being devised for officials from different grades, including assistant commissioners, income tax officers and tax inspectors, and would be rolled out in next fiscal.
