Hawks induction today

Bangalore, Feb. 22

BAE Systems' Hawk advanced jet trainers are to be inducted into the IAF on Saturday at Air Force Station Bidar. The IAF will become the 19th air force to use the Hawk AJTs, the first eight delivered at Bidar in November 2007, a BAE release said. A total of 66 aircraft have been contracted under a Rs 6,600-crore deal; 42 of these will be built under licence at the Bangalore facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Mr Nigel Whitehead, Group Managing Director, Military Air Solutions, BAE, said, "To see the Hawk AJT inducted into the Indian Air Force represents a significant event for both BAE Systems and the IAF." Ravi Uppal on board: ABB Ltd's Mr Ravi Uppal has been named the non-executive director on the BAE's board with effect from April 2 this year, BAE said. - Our Bureau
