Spice seeks spectrum on seniority

New Delhi, Feb. 23

Spice Communications has written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) to allot spectrum to it ahead of other firms who have been issued letter of intents (LoIs). The company has said that the principle of first-come-first-serve basis for allotment of spectrum, which has also been recognised by the Delhi High Court, should be followed. The Delhi High Court had in the matter said that “DoT shall take into account the seniority of the petitioner in respect of the applicat ion dated August 24, 2007, for grant of UAS licence.” Spice said that it was the most senior amongst all the applicants who were issued LoIs in most of the service areas for which the company had applied. —
