Our Bureau

Kochi, Feb. 25 The container terminal operator DP World and Cochin Port Trust have jointly organised an interactive session with the Bangalore EXIM trade to address the issues and concerns of the trade while shipping through Kochi.

It was also an opportunity to inform the trade in Bangalore of the significant changes taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal at Kochi for the benefit of the trade, DP World officials said here. The session was presided by Mr Krishna Rau, Chairman, Coffee Board.

Mr Elvis D’Cruz, Commercial Manager, DP World, emphasised the importance of the EXIM business in Bangalore for the growth of Kochi Port. The meet was attended by over 100 members comprising exporters, importers, shipping lines, buying houses, and freight forwarders.

Mr Suresh Joseph, General Manager, DP World, gave a brief presentation on the developments that had taken place at the terminal, including the introduction of two rail services per week connecting Bangalore to Kochi, facilitation of transhipment (foreign to foreign, foreign to India, India to foreign) using Kochi as a hub and the introduction of various customer friendly initiatives such as the IVRS, SMS and Customer Support System (CSS).

The mainline connectivity from Kochi and the benefits in terms of faster transit times, reduced cost of shipment and reliability were also discussed.

Mr Vipin Menoth, Traffic Manager in-charge of the port, spoke about the current portfolio and the future developments that were expected to transpire at the port.

Mr John Prasad, Chief General Manager, Concor, assured his support to the Bangalore trade, and also mentioned that the company would look at the opportunities of running more trains to Kochi depending on the trade’s requirement.
