‘TN policy for small units will create growth climate’
Our Bureau
Tiruchi, Feb. 25 The Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association has welcomed the State Government’s policy on micro, small and medium industries stating that it would create a conducive growth atmosphere.
The announcement on providing grants for private industrial estate, special capital subsidy for various industrial sectors and the back-ended interest subsidy for technology upgradation and modernisation would help small industries to grow, the association President, Mr S. Sridharan, said in a statement.
The capital subsidy and subsidies on power tariff, value-added tax, employment and use of environment-friendly technology would promote healthy competition among small industries.
The allocation of 20 per cent of land for micro, small and medium enterprises in the SIPCOT industrial estates and 30 per cent of land in SIDCO developed industrial estates would greatly help the sector.
The relaxation in floor space index (FSI) restriction for setting up industries in government industrial estates would help units expand. The association welcomed the package announced for rehabilitation of sick units. The proposal on establishing an industrial estate for the sector at Coimbatore was a first-time measure. A similar estate should be set up in Tiruchi too.
It wanted changes in the Factories Act to achieve 10 per cent growth and the target of providing employment to 10 lakh persons. The labour-intensive small-scale sector should be exempt from the Act, Mr Sridharan said.
