Bangalore, Feb. 25 Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd (JLR), a State Government enterprise, plans to set up five more facilities, taking the total number to 21, giving wild life and eco-tourism a further boost in Karnataka.
JLR expects to get funds from the Government from the 2008-09 budget to be presented in April or May.
At a press conference here Monday, Mr N.D. Tiwari, Managing Director of JLR, said this was part of the effort to enrich the experience of tourists beyond the five districts where its facilities are currently concentrated. The new facilities are expected to come up near Daroji Bear Sanctuary in Hospet District, Malaya Marutha in Chickmagalur District, Jog Falls and Hoggenegal Falls in the Karnataka part of Gopinath and Ottinane in Udupi District.
Mr Tiwari said each unit will cost about Rs 3 crore and it has sought adequate assistance from the Government to start work soon.
JLR, which already had about 16 facilities in Shimoga, Mysore, Uttara Kannada, Gudalur and Chikmagalur, is also planning to increase the accommodation and other facilities at Bhadra in Chickmagalur, Dubare in Coorg, Bandipur near Mysore and Ganeshgudi near Dandeli.
Mr Tiwari said JLR will be holding a one-day workshop on Tuesday to debate the eco-tourism policy. Though eco-tourism is governed by the respective guidelines and laws for protection of forests and environment, there is a need to address the issues of capacity building with focus on preserving nature.
