Shipping French liner CMA to upgrade service in Asia Our Bureau Kolkata, Feb.27 Come the end of March and CMA CGM, France’s number one and the world’s number three container shipping line, will have its Asia to India/Middle East Gulf Services (CIMEX) upgraded, according to sources. It will introduce a new complementary string to the existing CIMEX services. The service coverage from Asia thus will be split into two strings. String One will be dedicated to serve the Gulf states, Iran and Iraq and the port rotation will be: Ningbo-Shanghai-Fuqing/ Fuzhou-Chiwan-Port Kelang-Jebel Ali—Khorfakkan-Bandar Abbas-Port Kelang. String Two will be dedicated to Colombo and the West Coast of India supplemented with a call in the Gulf and the port rotation will be: Xiamen-Shantou- Chiwan-Laem Chabang- Port Kelang-Colombo-Nhava Sheva-Jebel Ali-Port Kelang. The service thus will open up the market of Shantou by introducing a direct call and linking it to the French shipping group’s liner network. Each string will be operated with five vessels of an average capacity of 2,500 TEUs each and in partnership with CMA CGM affiliates, ANL and CNC. The new service configuration is in response to the demand of the customers in China and India for fast transit time and quality services with additional direct connections, the sources add.
