Visakhapatnam, Feb 27 The Chennai-based W.S. Industries (India) Ltd, setting up an insulator unit in the special economic zone at Atchyuthapuram in Visakhapatnam district, has given 22 jobs to ex-servicemen and widows of ex-servicemen in its unit.

Ex-service men

Presenting the appointment letters to the employees in the district sainik welfare office here on Wednesday, the Managing Director of the company, Mr N. Sethuramon, said the unit was being set up on 48 acres of land allotted by the State Government at a cost of Rs 110 crore in the first phase, with a capacity to produce 10,000 tonnes of insulators per annum.

Export-oriented unit

“It will be an export-oriented unit, with 90 per cent of the output meant for exports. The unit will go on stream by May.

However, those who have been given appointment letters can join from tomorrow,” he said.

He said the company, aware of its social responsibility, was giving the jobs to the ex-servicewomen and the widows of some ex-servicemen on a regular basis.

“We will give almost all the jobs to local people and hardly ten persons will come from Chennai. We expect sincerity, hard work and dedication from you and we will look after you,” he promised.

He said the company may need 350 persons or so.

He said the company’s Chennai unit was producing 16,000 tonnes per annum and exporting 35 per cent of the output to 45 countries.

“We are supplying our porcelain insulators to all the State electricity boards in the country,” he said.
