Tea 39-week low offers at Coonoor tea auction P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Feb. 27 An analysis of the catalogues of the brokers shows that the volume offered for Sale No: 9 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here on Thursday and Friday is at a 39-week low. Only 7.22 lakh kgs are on offer. This is as much as 1.3 lakh kgs lower than last week. At current prices, the volume reduction means a fall of Rs 68 lakh in turnover. Still, this is higher than the volume of 7.04 lakh kgs offered this time last year. The low volume is said to arise from the harvest falling on account of red spider mite eating away the leaves in many plantation pockets. The UPASI Tea Research Foundation has advised growers to closely monitor the mites and take the recommended control measures. “Red spider mite incidence is on the increase in all the agro-climatic zones of Nilgiris. Care should be taken to identify scattered pockets of infestation and treated immediately to avoid further build up and spread of this pest,” it has said in its advisory note. ArrivalsFresh arrival is said to be 6.26 lakh kgs out of 7.22 lakh kgs. The balance consists of teas remaining unsold in previous auctions. More Stories on : Tea
