Mangalore, Feb. 27

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) is focusing more on southern States for the establishment of retail outlets. Nearly 60 per cent of the company’s retail outlets will be based in the South.

Mr Sanjay Grover, General Manager (Retail Sales), told presspersons here that the company is planning to set up 25 retail outlets during the current calendar year. It has approval from the Government to open 500 retail outlets in the country.

Nearly 60 per cent of the retail outlets, under the brand name ‘HiQ’, will come up in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Around 25 per cent of outlets will come up in Goa, Maharashtra and the Gujarat belt. The company, which opened its first ‘HiQ’ outlet at Maddur on the Bangalore-Mysore highway recently, is focusing on Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the first phase of outlet establishment. The next phase of operations will see ‘HiQ’ outlets coming up in Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat, apart from the expansion of the network in southern States, he said.

Of the 25 outlets targeted for the current calendar year, 15 outlets are likely to be set up in Karnataka. Mr Grover said that ‘HiQ’ outlets at Hubli and Mangalore are getting ready for commissioning within the current financial year.

MRPL wants to be watchful and careful in the establishment of retail outlets, he added.
