New Delhi, Feb. 28 The Centre is well on course to surpass the budget target for customs duty revenues in 2007-08 going by the collection data available for the period up to January 2008 this fiscal.

Official sources said that customs duty revenues during April 2007- January 2008 stood at Rs 84,258 crore, which represented 85.30 per cent of the budget estimate of Rs 98,770 crore for 2007-08.

The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, had recently expressed confidence that the budget estimates on indirect taxes would be exceeded for the current fiscal.

As on end-January this fiscal, the Centre’s excise revenues stood at Rs 97,559 crore, representing about 75 per cent of the budget estimate of Rs 1,30,220 crore.

Service tax collections during April-December 2007 stood at about Rs 35,000 crore as against the budget estimate of Rs 50,200 crore for the entire 2007-08.
