Smiles for aam admi


The budget has pleased farmers and the aam admi. Besides waiver of farmer loans, measures such as enhanced agricultural credit target, investment in irrigation facilities will help uplift agriculture sector. Increased allocation for education/ health/ women and child welfare/ midday meal and so on is expected to bring general wellness. Excise duty on petrol/ diesel could have been reduced to help control inflation.

Some areas where the budget hurts include: Marginal commercial activities carried on by some charitable institutions are also brought into tax net; additional costs imposed from commodity transaction tax at a time when the market is nascent and is being promoted as a hedging tool for farmers and traders.
