This has been a balanced, disciplined and responsible budget. There had been a fear that it may turn out to be populist with the elections up next year. But these fears have been allayed as the budget continues the momentum of growth and focuses on the right issues such as infrastructure, rural economy, education, manufacturing and healthcare.

The education-related initiatives will address the need for ‘right’ talent. The five-year tax holiday for setting up hospitals in non-urban cities is another important step as this will help spread healthcare services widely across the country.

The sops for rural development, manufacturing, education, healthcare and so on will maintain the growth momentum of the economy, implying increase in IT spends across industries. The increase in domestic revenues for the IT sector will help reduce risks related to exchange-rates.
