Shipping Common China-US box service In an interesting development, Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM, the world’s top three container operators and competitors, have joined hands to launch a common service between Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and the US west coast. The proposed service will be launched from April. There will be two joint services: the Yang Tse, serving central and south China, and the Bohai Rim, serving central and north China. These two new weekly services will deploy 10 vessels each of 8,000-teu capacity (five on each loop), creating weekly direct service between China and the United States. The new initiative allows Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM to rationalise existing services into a more powerful customer responsive service offering as the proposed services will provide customers with extensive port coverage in China with twice per week direct calls between China and the Californian ports. The development also comes as a replacement of existing capacity in trade. OUR BUREAU More Stories on : Shipping | Supply Chain Management
