Colombo box port plan shelved?

Colombo’s box port plan is likely to flounder over the Hong Kong-Singapore row, reports Lanka Business Online. The report suggests that Sri Lanka is expected to scrap a plan to develop a new container terminal at Colombo because of reported differences between Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and the government-appointed negotiation committee over who should be given the job — the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) in partnership with local Ai tken Spence, the winner of the bid, or Hong Kong’s Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), that came second.

SLPA is believed to have favoured HPH, while the majority in the negotiation committee reportedly recommended PSA. The bidding was launched about a year ago and was to close in June. There were a total of five bidders, it is learnt.
