Mixed trend in spot rubber

Kottayam, March 3 The physical rubber prices showed a mixed mood on Monday. RSS 4 improved to Rs 101.50 from Rs 100 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi as sellers stayed back letting the market to rule firm amidst a better TOCOM closing. The overall sentiments were bullish. RSS 3 firmed up at its April futures to ¥296.2 (Rs 116.25) from ¥294.3 a kg at TOCOM. But its spot weakened to Rs 111.74 from Rs 112.46 a kg at Bangkok.

Futures steady

The rubber futures finished almost steady on NMCE. The March contract ended at Rs 100.75 (100.69), April at Rs 103.60 (103.69), May at Rs 105.59 (105.62) and June at Rs 107.40 (107.58) per kg for RSS 4. The volumes stood at 764 (735) tonnes trading 275 (346) tonnes in March, 348 (291) tonnes in April 81 (62) tonnes in May and 60 (36) tonnes in June. The open interest was 6,949 (6,914) tonnes with 3,842 (3,818) tonnes in March, 2,072 (2,069) tonnes in April, 693 (686) tonnes in May and 342 (341) tonnes in June.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 101.50 (101); RSS-5: 99.50 (99.50); ungraded: 97.50 (97); ISNR 20: 99.50 (99.25) and latex 60 per cent: 70 (70).
