Stress on strategies to curb attrition

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, March 3

Companies need to focus more on talent management to achieve corporate excellence and also to bring down attrition rates, which is plaguing certain sectors, according to Mr P. Babu Rao, Director (Personnel), of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day seminar on talent management at the Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses here on Monday. He said that though India was a labour-surplus country, with the majority of the population being young (the so-called demographic dividend), there was a huge talent crunch in many areas, leading to attrition.

Mr Rao suggested that the companies should focus on hiring people with right attitude and then imparting the required training to them. .

Citing the example of the Neyveli Lignite, he said that for the past 15 years or so the attrition was hardly 0.5 per cent in the company. Mr Rao said that the company looked after the employees well and therefore hardly anyone was willing to leave it.
