PowerGrid chief resigns

New Delhi, March 3

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr R.P. Singh, has resigned after a ten-year stint at the helm of the power transmission utility. Sources said Mr Singh, who resigned on Friday, would serve out a one-month notice period. Details of his next assignment could not be ascertained. Mr Singh, who took over as CMD of the company in August 1997, was set to superannuate on July 31. Interviews for filling up the position were held by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) early this month. National Hydro-electric Power Corp Director (Personnel) Mr S.K. Chaturvedi and Hindustan Paper Corporation Chief Mr Raji Philip are among the frontrunners for the post. - Our Bureau
