Kolkata port posts 22.84% growth in box throughput

Kolkata, March 4 Between April and February of the current fiscal (2007-08), the Kolkata Port Trust posted 22.84 per cent growth in container throughput at 387,724 TEUs as compared to 315,631 TEUs in the same period of 2006-07, according to a press release issued by the port.

Of the incremental throughput of 72,093 TEUs during the period, the share of Kolkata Dock System was 56,752 TEUs, registering a growth of 26.2 per cent and that of Haldia dock 15,341 TEUs, representing a growth of 15.52 per cent.

The performance was particularly good in February when the throughput at 40,220 TEUs was the highest ever handled in a single month, the press release adds.
