Safety Week celebrations at Mangalore Port

Mangalore, March 4 It is high time to take concerted measures to prevent accidents, according Mr M.V. Padiyar, Director (Production and Projects), Kudremukh Iron Ore company Ltd.

Inaugurating the Safety Week celebrations at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on Tuesday, he said safety should be given utmost importance from the top management level to the level of ground staff in any organization. He said that safety week celebration inculcates the habit of safety at workplace. In addition to health, importance should also be given for the health of the staff, he said.

Presiding over the meeting, Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, said that safety issues are given importance at the port. Steps have also been taken to prevent pollution at the port.

Regarding performance at port, he said the port recorded a growth of 13 per cent in cargo handling till the end of February during the current financial year. Container cargo witnessed a growth of 20 per cent during the period, he added.

Mr M.A. Bhaskarachar, Deputy Chairman of NMPT, gave an account on the safety week celebration and administered safety oath to the employees on the occasion.
