The Budget as a whole is welcome and encouraging. An increase of 15 per cent in the healthcare spending is a welcome step but seeing the backwardness in the rural areas and the vast population of India, a greater allocation was expected, thus the designated allocation of funds is inadequate. The Government has tried to cover all sectors of the healthcare industry but the real concern still lies in the proper utilisation of these funds.

A 5-year tax holiday for setting up hospitals in tier-II and tier-III regions for providing healthcare in rural areas is another good news for the healthcare sector. This will enthuse capital-rich ventures to invest vigorously in the infrastructural development, hence taking the benefit of medical advancement and new technology to the backward areas. Here again, the Government should have defined the areas more properly.
