Fewer mandays lost in 2007
Thiruvananthapuram, March 4
Year 2007 has seen a drop in the number of mandays
lost due to lockouts and layoffs in the State compared
to the year ago, according to the Labour Commissioner,
Mr K. S. Premachandra Kurup. As many as 23.7 lakh
mandays were lost in 2006, which improved to 20.4 lakh
mandays during the year that followed. Lockouts
accounted for 18.11 lakh and layoffs 5.64 lakh in year
2006, while these were 15.09 lakh and 5.35 lakh during
2007. Strikes accounted for 86,997 mandays lost in 2006
and 87,226 in 2007. There were six lockouts in 2006,
while there was none in 2007. Layoffs totalled to three
