Employment Lateral placements at IIM-K see plum offers from top firms Our Bureau Kochi, March 5 Lateral placement season concluded at IIM Kozhikode with 35 premier recruiters from India and abroad participating in the event and making a total 103 offers to 55 students. The average salary for lateral placements this year stood at Rs 15.56 lakh per annum, a press release from IIM-K said. A number of firms participated in the lateral placements in finance, consulting, marketing and general management space this year. IT companies also participated in laterals in big numbers this year. Lateral placements for this year’s batch seems to have come of age, with a number of compelling trends becoming evident. Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Chairperson-Placements, IIM-K, said, “Contrary to previous years, when lateral placements were typically dominated by the IT/ITES sector, this year lateral placements saw a deluge of plum offers from across diverse industries, recruiting for a wide set of roles and functions.” The roles and profiles on offer were significantly richer and more challenging than what has traditionally been offered to students in a campus placement programme. Lateral placements season is evolving into an all-rounded affair clearly indicating the trust that the industry is placing in the quality of talent on offer at IIM-K. Global recruitersInternational recruiters also turned out in full strength at IIM-K, making no less than 13 offers to students. The highest international salary on offer was $175,000. Some other industries that found lateral placements in 2008 were in banks and financial services, media & technology, fast moving consumer goods, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, retail and telecommunications. Some of the major companies representing the consulting sector were KPMG, Monitor Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Hewitt Associates, Deloitte & Touche, Boston Analytics, i2 Consulting, GrowTalent and Capgemini, who made top-drawer consulting offers to the students. Banking sectorThe banks and financial services sector were represented by Barclays, Citibank, Lehman Brothers, Standard Chartered and Yes Bank. The fast-growing media, technology and telecom sectors took full advantage of the quality of talent on offer by making offers at the lateral placements. More Stories on : Employment | Education
