New Delhi, March 6 Chinese durables giant Haier Appliances is looking to make India an export hub for its global operations. The company is on an aggressive expansion mode and is increasing its product offerings to scale up its presence in the domestic market.

The wholly owned subsidiary of the $16.2-billion Haier Group has introduced a range of energy-efficient air conditioners and frost-free refrigerators in India. “We already do some portion of exports for our global operations from India. However, in future, we hope to make India both a manufacturing and export hub,” Mr Pranay Dhabhai, Whole-Time Director and COO, Haier Appliances India, said. The new range of air-conditioners comprises 16 split AC models and nine window AC models. The company has also introduced nine new refrigerator models in both frost-free and direct cool categories.

“We are targeting 7-8 per cent market share in the refrigerators and 9-10 per cent market share in ACs segments during the current year,” he said. Haier also plans to strengthen its air-conditioner and refrigerator business through an aggressive sales channel expansion for its home appliances business, besides consolidating its dealer and after sales service network across the country.

Haier had earlier acquired a 40-acre facility in Pune owned by Anchor Daewoo. The unit has a capacity to produce 3,30,000 refrigerators annually, he said adding it is also looking at introducing washing machines and colour televisions from the unit.

On Planet Haier, the company owned retail outlets, Mr Dhabhai said the company will add two new outlets taking the number to 25 by the year-end.

The company hopes to cross a turnover of Rs 550 crore this fiscal from Rs 325 crore last year. It has earmarked Rs 23 crore towards branding and promotion.
