People Additional Secretary to be next CMD of Air India Ashwini Phadnis New Delhi, March 6 The Public Enterprises Selection Board has zeroed in on the candidate who will become the next Chairman and Managing Director of Air India, the new state owned airline created recently by the merger between Air India and Indian Airlines. Sources told Business Line that the meeting which was held here on Thursday has recommended the name of an Additional Secretary to the Government to take over the top position in the airline. Job done“The committee has done its job. The next CMD will be a Government servant. It is now for the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet to appoint a person as the CMD of AI,” sources said. The Board met with all the nine shortlisted candidates, including the Joint Managing Director, Air India, Mr V. Trivedi, who was recently promoted to the rank of Additional Secretary to the Government. Thulasidas retirementThe Air India Chairman and Managing Director’s post falls vacant on March 31 when the current CMD, Mr V. Thulasidas, retires from Government service on attaining superannuation. The next CMD will be joining AI at a crucial time as the airline has not only started inducting more than 100 brand new aircraft but has also begun an exercise to purchase more aircraft to meet market needs.
