Additional DA for Central staff

New Delhi, March 7

The Union Cabinet on Friday gave its nod for the release of additional instalment of dearness allowance to Central Government employees and dearness relief to pensioners from January 1 this year. The rate of dearness allowance from January 1, 2008 will be 47 per cent, which is 6 per cent over the existing rate of 41 per cent. Briefing newspersons on the Cabinet decision, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, said that the combined impact on t he exchequer on account of both dearness allowance and dearness relief would be about Rs 3,297.12 crore in a full year. The Minister also said that the impact would be Rs 3,846.66 crore for a period of 14 months from January 2008 to February 2009. —
