Education IGCC to set up training institute in Pune Our Bureau Chennai, March 8 The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) plans to set up a vocational cum technical training institute in Pune for Indian and German companies located in the region to train their manpower. The chamber will also set up an office in Pune next month. According to Mr Bernd Muetzelburg, Ambassador of Germany in India, a public-private partnership model is sought for this venture where curricula for training will be defined by the industry. This move will help produce quality manpower for German companies wanting to set up operations in India and also benefit local companies. Asked if this model would be replicated in other parts of India, Mr Muetzelburg said it was premature to comment. “But private companies in India have been running several such programmes for many years seeking German inputs,” he added. Germany has announced investments of close to €7 billion in India, while unannounced investments amount to €10 billion. Some of these investments would be made in South India, Mr Bernhard Steinreucke, Director-General, IGCC, said at the chamber’s 2008 regional annual meeting. He did not disclose any names of investing companies. Trade with EUIn light of the US economic slowdown and the dollar depreciation, Mr Muetzelburg said it would be important for Indian companies to improve trade with the European Union (EU). Though effects of the US slowdown would soon impact the EU, a strong Euro would at least ensure Indian exporter maintained their margins, he said. A few years ago German companies were gung-ho about setting up operations in China. Asked if that was still the case, the ambassador said no. More Stories on : Education | Human Resources
